1 How to use VHE and setup (easy mode) on Sun Oct 30, 2011 11:37 pm

Hi all!
This is my first tutorial and I focus on Valve Hammer Editor, an updated version of the precious Worldcraft 3.3: D
Links at the end of post!
With this tool you have sun or moon, you can set the light intensity to your liking!

Well let's start with the configuration:
When you open VHE will get a window saying there is no configuration, you must click YES to start configuring. The Options window should appear.

To start you must select "game configurations" and follow the steps indicated by numbers.

First step.
Adding configuration and the nzp fgd to the VHE.

1 - Click edit button to add a configuration name, pressing edit another window will come out that we must press add button and add a name, I called NZP and click close.

2 - Click on the add button marked with a 2 and find the location of NZP.fgd, it is in the rar file unzip fgd folder, select the tab and proceed to build programs.
To continue with the second step, we must accept the changes before selecting Build Programs!

3 - Add folders of the game like this image ( your folder location of nzp game )

Second step.
Adding the build tools to VHE.
1 - Click on the buttons and find the game executable, we must make a copy and rename it to nzp because it can give errors when trying to compile the map.

2 and more - Click browse .. and this time we 4 files, all are in the rar to unpack for this tool, zhlt are in the folder for the selected CSG hlcsg.exe for hlbsp.exe BSP for VIS and RAD hlvis.exe hlrad.exe
Accept the changes made so far.
Final result

Step Three.
Adding textures to VHE.

Select the textures for the game is expendable because without them we can not create the map ...
To choose the textures always have to add zhlt.wad so we can have the texture and kurok.wad clip for game textures.

Almost everything is ready!

Now we need the last step.
Click on File -> New and File -> Save, save the file to change the necessary parameters.
Let's click on the button indicated in the picture below and change the following parameters where indicated:

Parametres to change.

1 - Click on the command line
2 - Change "$path\$file"in HLCSG NOT HLBSP!! to "-wadinclude kurok.wad $path\$file" without quotes.
3 and 4 Read the image.

Just click me for download VHE 3.5

Click Here to download the latest compilers!

Im testing the newest compilers, just read the last post by me here to see the changelog Smilez

Thanks for reading all mappers VeryHappy

VHE uses wad3 texture files. You have to convert it to wad3 with wally or some other texture program.

21 I need some help with VHE on Sat Jan 05, 2013 7:38 am

I need some help with VHE.
I normaly use Worldcraft,
with the tuts of truenightmare I made some neat maps.

Then I noticed that with VHE you could do awesome light effects!
So I followed this tut, for setting up Valve.
It all went fine, I even compiled my map and played it.
The light worked, and it looked awesome!

BUT now when I try to make a zombie window, I get compiling errors.
When I make the hole in the wall the zombies are supposed to come from
and put a clip texture block in, it gives me the error.
BUT when I change the texture of that block to something else,
NO COMPILING ERRORS! Just when it has the clip texture.

I also put a basic desk/table in my map, and put a clip texture around it.
So you wouldn't be able to jump onto it. And that works just fine!
So only a clip texture in that hole ruins the compiling.

I think I have done your last step of setting up VHE wrong.
The part were I need to change the command line.

I NEVER got these errors on Worldcraft. I hope I can FIX VHE for the lights.

AND SORRY FOR DIGGING UP THIS OLD POST just needed some help...

Copy and paste everything in the compiler window, without that we can't help you...

Also here are my compiler settings:

There is a leak on the map!! This happens when there is a hole in the map or you have an entitie on the outside of the map.

You need to locate thes hole/s and fix 'em.

Alliteratively you can put a block with the texture "sky" around the map and make it hollow (hollow to "2") but this is the lazy way out and can generally triple compile time, your best bet is to locate the hole/s and patch 'em, so we can kill the ugly bastards!!!!

And wad include has to be on $csg_exe not hlbsp, javy made that mistake but if you read his other posts he corrects this error, and also use -nowadtextures, it's alot easier to use.
