quake?

i was messing around on NZP Alpha 1.2, and i was making it run perfect. still am. with all working buttons. I was bored and so i went to multiplayer a few times. downloaded one of the server contents on the quake servers. the downloads were finished, but i couldn't connect to the server. then i went back to the multiplayer screen.i changed my port from 26000 to 23000. and i found two servers in the Dark Places server list. i joined one, and i think it was another quake game. the nzp hud wasn't on. i wasn't holding an NZP weapon either. what is this? can you play other quake games on NZP?
