Avatar problem

Every time i want a custom avatar, i download it, the convert it to JPG 150 by 200, i also tried lowering the quailty, but it keeps saying file type is not allowed, what can i do to fix this?

You could also try putting it on imghosts and uploading through link
That image limit is bullshit
I think my avatar is more than 500x500 it just adjusts and re sizes it
